The bloody tragedy recited in another column, as the result of an old feud, is a sad commentary upon human nature in its stubborn malice and unsanctified pride. Here were two neighbors, with plenty of this world's goods to make them comfortable and happy, allowing themselves to harbor prejudice and enmity for years, until at last it culminates in the death of a stranger, the mortal wounding of one of the principals and the serious stabbing of the other. All about a fence and a hog. None of which were worth shedding a single drop of blood for. Thus by cherishing a grudge, in a moment of impulsive rashness, a deed of violence is committed that mars the happiness of two families and plunges them into deepest grief.

How trifles do warp the mind and poison the reason and wreck lives. In Cobb county we doubt not, there are other families who are nursing their wrath over some old feud brought about by some hog or cow getting into a field, which a little patience and labor would have prevented. These neighbors never speak to each other, have no friendly communion, keep brooding over wrongs, unable to subdue their pride, and thus they go on from year to year, until some day there will come a clash, a torch will be applied to the magazine of their temper and they will either become murderers and have to fly from home and loved ones, or fill a bloody and inhospitable grave, all because they will not, like sensible men, meet and shake hands, forgive and forget, and try to live like good and worthy neighbors and citizens should.
