BASSETERRE, (St. Kitts) Nov. 19.

We are informed, that a dreadful affray happened between the military and part of the inhabitants of Barbados, which ended in the death of several of the latter. All we could collect, is, that an American sloop ran upon some rocks, and was so much damaged, that the Capt. put into Bridgetown; and obtained leave of the governor to land his cargo, and repair his vessel, but was restricted from selling any part of his lading; he, however, had the temerity to sell the cargo, in consequence of which the collector seized it and deposited it in the king's stores; the people who purchased it, aided by their friends, &c. broke open the store, and were busy in taking the different articles out, when the military were ordered to oppose them. Instead of desisting, they had the audacity to resist, and stoned the troops, who, in return, fired on them, and killed and wounded upwards of twenty of them.

An American sloop ran aground on rocks and put into Bridgetown for repairs. The captain obtained permission to land cargo but not to sell it; he sold it anyway. The collector seized the cargo and stored it in the king's stores. Purchasers and friends broke open the store to retrieve goods. Military intervened; inhabitants resisted by stoning troops, who fired back, killing and wounding over twenty.
