At the conclusion of the late war, the perspective held up was fraught with every advantage to Columbia's victorious sons: but, melancholy reflection, how sadly we experience the reverse: our trade cramped, merchants embarrassed, our manufactures declining, luxury prevailing, religion disregarded, many of our worthiest characters neglected, and the vipers, instrumental in our late calamity fostered. Though in the most trivial occurrences of life, they manifest a perfect animosity and inexorable dispositions towards every active friend of America.
