At the conclusion of the late war, the perspective held up was fraught with every advantage to Columbia's victorious sons: but, melancholy reflection, how sadly we experience the reverse: our trade cramped, merchants embarrassed, our manufactures declining, luxury prevailing, religion disregarded, many of our worthiest characters neglected, and the vipers, instrumental in our late calamity fostered. Though in the most trivial occurrences of life, they manifest a perfect animosity and inexorable dispositions towards every active friend of America. This, says our correspondent, is no chimera, and he appeals to the public for the veracity of his assertion. No sophistry will make him alter his opinion, notwithstanding, much artifice has been made use of to gull the public into a belief of the fondness of the tories to coalesce with whigs. Opinion of such repugnant texture, will never cement until humanity changes, and "mortality puts on immortality," Our correspondent further observes, that had there been more firmness on the part of government, at our first taking possession of this city, we had spared those murmurs and dissensions which pervade the mass of the people at this time. These are not the effusions of an inter esting, disappointed, or ambitious man; but of one who wishes to see virtue rewarded, the oppressed relieved, the innocent protected, but the guilty sent to--or to that place of penance, Nova-Scotia,
