Full Text

Thomas Chilton.—It now appears that Chilton is elected to Congress, as will be seen by the following article from the St. Louis Times.

"The question of Mr. Chilton's election stands as follows; in the whole district he has a majority of 75 votes over his competitor, Mr. Hawes. In the Township of Breckenridge, Hawes, the judges of the election were not sworn in at all after the election. This township gave to Mr. Chilton a majority; but in consequence of their informality, the sheriffs of the district struck them out, thus leaving Mr. H. a majority of 9 votes. Mr. Chilton will proceed to Washington and claim his seat, and there is no doubt that it will be allowed him.'"
