New Orleans (LPA)—Undaunted by the success of the State Righters in throwing their state into the Dixiecrat column in last week's election, Louisiana workers are determined to go into politics for keeps. They're resolved to take the Creole state out of the Bourbon line-up.
The New Orleans Joint Board of the Textile Workers Union of America last week established a permanent legislative and educational committee to plan for future campaigns, as well as to present the union's program to the current state and city governments.
Lucille Savoie, joint board executive secretary, who ran against Taft-Hartleyite Rep. F. Edward Herbert in the Democratic primaries will head the committee. Paul Schuler, regional TWUA director will serve as advisor.
Another answer to Dixiecrat presidential candidate J. Strom Thurmond's boast that his party will survive the 1948 elections comes from the AFL.
Its state paper, the Federationist has launched a campaign against the States Righters.
From all over the south AFL local leaders gathered in New Orleans last month for a meeting of the Southeastern Building Trades Conference. The Dixiecrat movement is "controlled by foes of labor" they declared.
