Portsmouth, October 2.
YESTERDAY Morning the Wind blowing strong from the Southward, a Ship which appeared to be a Merchantman, was seen off our Harbour; Boats were immediately dispatched with a Number of Men, who boarded her. She proved to be a Ship from Bristol, owned by Joseph Glover, Esq; out 11 Weeks, commanded by Capt. Richard Emms with two Thousand Barrels of Flour, consigned to Henry Lloyd, for the Use of the ministerial Army, at Boston; the Ship was directly brought up to Town, and secured to a Wharf. She had on Board also a small Quantity of Beer and Cheese.
The Master informs us, he spoke with a Brig bound to Boston from London, with 1800 Barrels of Flour, 200 Barrels of Pork, a Brig from Jersey, with 1200 Barrels of Flour and Pork; also the St. Kitts Planter, with 1900 Barrels of Flour; and the Kitty, which sailed a week before him, with 1900 Barrels of Flour, and that two more were at Bristol taking in Flour, for Boston.
On Monday the above Ship spoke with the Raven Sloop of War, bound to Boston, out 10 Weeks,
This Ship was in a violent Hurricane, which split her Sails to pieces. The Boston Packet from Jamaica bound to Bristol, lost her Mainmast and 24 Hogsheads of Sugar in the Gale.
