THINKS HIS FAMILY DROWNED.
Delegate to Knights of Columbus from Topeka, Kan., Got His Fiftieth Telegram Back.
T. J. Coughlin of Topeka, Kan., is a national delegate from that state to the Knights of Columbus convention which is being held in this city. He is president and manager of the Coughlin Hardware Co. of that place. He left there a week ago Monday. Since last Thursday he heard about the flood and he has sent fifty telegrams to his home and all have been returned unanswered. Last evening as he was seated at the table in the banquet hall at the Tontine hotel he had his fiftieth telegram returned to him, and a notice that it was impossible for any communication to get anywhere near his home. In an interview he said that his home and business was located directly in the heart of the flood and he thought that they had been entirely wiped out. He said he thought that his wife and child must have been drowned, as it hardly seemed possible that they could have escaped. He said he would start for home this morning, but that it would do no good as he could get nowhere near there. He was completely broken down over his troubles.
