Integration In Pine Bluff School PutOff

PINE BLUFF, Ark., - Racial integration of the Pine Bluff city school system was postponed by the Pine Bluff School Board here Thursday.

The gradual desegregation plan, announced by the Board in Sept. 1956 was to begin in the first grade at the opening of the fall 1958 term.

The board, in a statement released Thursday said that since the adoption of the plan "events have occurred within our state which have compelled the board to re-examine the suggested timing for the beginning of the plan."

The Board referred to the school integration controversy at Little Rock and said it was postponing start of school integration here in the interest of peace, harmony and tranquility between the races.
