Full Text

Mr. Samuel Pleasants,

I was one of the committee appointed to draft toasts for the barbecue at Goochland Court House, on the 4th July: This committee was appointed sometime previous to the barbecue, and the toasts prepared by one of the members and presented on the day—I was not present at the barbecue, and had no knowledge of the proceedings until I saw them published in the Argus. Finding that some of the toasts do not accord with my sentiments, I wish it to appear, that I did not as one of the committee give my sanction to them. The toast respecting Mr. John Randolph I particularly disapprove of, as I think he deserves well of his country.

JOHN CURD.
Goochland, July 9, 1809.
