San Francisco, Dec. 16.--The rebuilt and modernized Palace hotel was opened to the public today, marking the culmination of the reconstruction of the city in the re-establishment of this hostelry which before the fire of 1906 was probably the most widely known institution of the 'old town.' The new hotel is constructed along the same general lines and many of the old features, including the famous open court, have been restored. Thousands of San Franciscans flocked through the entrances and inspected the Palace today.
