Now that Roscoe Toles holds the heavyweight championship of two states Ohio and Michigan—The Detroit title contender is wondering just what he will do with them.

Toles won the Michigan heavyweight championship by soundly trouncing Johnny Whiters, Pontiac janitor, last winter. He acquired the Ohio diadem by polishing off Jack Tramnell two weeks ago in Youngstown.

So, with two crowns weighing his head down, Roscoe is screaming the boxing horn for bigger and more lucrative bouts. And the big Detroit fighter is not picking his opponents.

For instance, before each championship bout Roscoe brags about his exploits, said, under pretense that he would be willing and desirous to meet Pat Comiskey, the New Jersey heavyweight who was recently stopped by Max Baer in one round.

Comiskey has had a tremendous buildup within the past months, and was at one time spoken of as a possible opponent for Louis.

The proud Mr. Toles made an effort to meet Comiskey in the ring when the latter was in Detroit a few months back to fight, but Comiskey's managerial force declined the bout although the original fight failed to keep the opponent and a substitution had to be made.

Roscoe has often expressed amazement at the refusal of Baer to accept a challenge from him.

And then Mr. Toles said he was not averse to meeting Buddy Baer. Maybe younger brother Joe will decline a return match with Bob Pastor, the New Yorker who scored a victory over Toles in the Spring of 1939, thus vaulting into a championship match with Louis last September.

Boxing promoters in Detroit have been buried in the doldrums of despair during the past months, and the town has sunk to a very low level. What was once known from coast to coast as the best boxing town in the country is now recognized as probably the worst. All because of the poor matches made.

Well, the promoters could renew this interest in the boxing game by putting Roscoe against Comiskey, Baer, Pastor, or some of the other good heavyweights in the country. St. Antoine Street believes that Toles will whip the hell and high water of the heavyweight contenders.
