Fire at New Orleans.—This unfortunate city has again been visited with an extensive and destructive fire. It broke out about ten o'clock in the evening of the 1st inst. in the cotton warehouses of Mr. Livaudais, sen. and scarcely had the fire bell sounded the alarm before the whole was discovered to be in flames. From one corner of the street to another, simultaneously, These buildings were situated in the faubourg St. Mary, forming a square bounded by Carondelet, Perdido, Baronne and Union streets, built of brick, part of which were two stories in height. The cotton warehouses, and about two thousand bales of cotton were entirely consumed. The dwelling houses, fronting on Carondelet street, and on Baronne, were by dint of perseverance on the part of the inhabitants, saved from the devouring element, although built of wood. It is computed that about twenty three thousand bales of cotton were in the warehouses and yards at the time the fire took place. Eight hundred bales of which was the return cargo of the British ship Aurora, billed on the bar of the S. W. Pass a short time ago. The fire from the rapid manner in which was communicated, and the fact of the dwellings, although made of combustible materials, being saved, leaves no doubt but that it was the evil doings of some malicious incendiary. The destruction of property is estimated at about one hundred thousand dollars— eight hundred bales of cotton at $50,000, and the premises at $30,000. It was not ascertained whether the whole was insured or not.
