OLD COUNCIL REELECTED

Except that Charles Darwell succeeds F. E. Gingrass, who was not a candidate for re-election.

Election for Member School Board Resulted in a Tie Between Dr. O. H. Whaley and B. Y. Grant.

The election Tuesday resulted in the heaviest vote ever polled in a municipal election in Wrangell, the total vote being 352. The result as announced by the canvassing board was as follows:

Naturally the public is interested in knowing what has been done or what is going to be done regarding the tie vote for member of the school board.

The town council at its meeting Thursday night voted to accept the report of the election board.

A cablegram has been sent to Attorney General Rustgard asking for instruction as to the proper procedure in the matter. Nothing further will be done until his reply is received.

The following telegram was received from the Attorney General just before going to press:

"In event tie. none is elected and incumbent continues in office until vacancy is filled as provided in section 29, chapter 97, session laws of 1923".

The section referred to in the Attorney General's cablegram says:

"Within seven days after each annual election the board shall organize and shall annually elect one of their members president, one treasurer and one clerk of the board. In case a vacancy in membership occurs from death, resignation, removal or other cause such vacancy may be filled by appointment by the council of the city with the consent of the remaining members of the board. and in the event the remaining members of the board do not consent to have the vacancy filled by the council, such vacancy shall be filled by a special election upon at least ten days notice called by the Council. When a vacancy is filled by appointment by the City Council the appointee shall serve only until a successor is elected at the next general election."
