The U. S. schooner Porpoise, Capt. Ramage is fitting out at Charleston, S. C. under orders from government to take charge of the survey of the coast of Florida from St. Mary's round the dry Tortugas to the Mobile. In this important undertaking Capt. Ramage will be accompanied by a number of Naval officers and Topographical Engineers. - We are pleased to observe the government thus early attending to this useful and interesting subject. It is sincerely to be hoped their attention will next be turned to a more vigorous protection of our commerce from the numerous pirates and Buccaneers of the West India seas.
