TOWN TOPICS
Mr. and Mrs. Ray O'Brien drove to Culbertson Friday afternoon on a business trip.
Kenneth Sage and Pete Danielsen arrived Tuesday from Seattle to visit relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Baker of Elbowoods, N. D., spent Armistice day and the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frances Eagle Bear.
Mrs. C. J. Samuelson and Mrs. Schultz of Brockton were Poplar visitors on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Tange shopped in Poplar on Thursday.
A large crowd from Poplar attended the Armistice day program at Fort Kipp.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Washington of Wamblee, S. D., spent the week end visiting relatives and friends in Poplar. Mrs. Washington was formerly Pauline Hayne.
Vernon Pereau accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Washington on their return home Sunday.
Mrs. Stanley Nees visited in the Mineral Bench community Thursday.
Mrs. John Erickson was a Poplar visitor from the north country on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harrington, former Poplar residents who moved away about 20 years ago, visited friends and relatives here for a few days last week. They returned last Friday morning to their home at Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Mrs. Wilfred Smith entertained Mr. and Mrs. Washington and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hayne, Saturday at a 6 o'clock dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Frost of the Mineral Bench community visited at the Jerry Holcom and Peter Tange homes in Poplar on Monday before leaving for Racine, Wis., where they will visit with relatives and friends.
The following are patients at the government hospital this week: Mrs. Jennie Began His Own, Darlene Beston, Alice Long Tree, Mrs. Regina Neilson, Orville Ricker, Susan Hedderick, all of Poplar; LeRoy Big Leggings, Frazer; Vean Dean Thompson, Frazer; Ethel and Ernest Longee, Brockton; Jeanette Looking and baby Benjamin Looking, Wolf Point; Gloria Ann Garfield, Wolf Point; Wm. Scott, Medicine Lake. Patients discharged were Eugene Desjarlais, Lionel Flynn and Alice Marie Shafer, Poplar; Charlotte Garfield and Lenora Cox, Wolf Point, and Loretta LaRoque, Frazer.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Johnson drove to Wolf Point last Saturday morning.
Bill Hagen, editor of the Plentywood Herald, took in the Legion elk feed here Saturday evening.
Joe Frerich and Peter Tange made a business trip to the north country on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Nordwick and son Roy left Thursday morning for Great Falls to visit their daughter and sister, Grace, who is attending school there.
THE POPLAR STANDARD
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bauer spent a few days in Poplar this week visiting relatives and friends. Joe has been employed at Sand Point, Idaho on the big new government airport.
Martin Fossen and Ole Berg were among those from the north country who shopped in Poplar on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Tange and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Nees attended the silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Einer Lund at Wolf Point Wednesday evening.
Dave Dupree, employed on the airport at Glasgow, visited in Poplar over the week-end. While here Dave renewed his son's, Duncan's, subscription to The Standard and said that Duncan, who is in Australia, recently completed a six months' period of special training and expects soon to become a Major. He is now Captain of Co. B. He added that there were a few Poplar boys still left in the old Poplar company.
Miss Effie Toll returned Friday from Lewistown where she visited at the home of her sister, Mrs. C. W. Orner.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Willoughby. Mr. and Mrs. Everette Sullens and Mrs. Ray Miller and children were among those in from the south side on Saturday.
Mrs. C. S. Ketchner and Carol Ann returned Monday morning from San Diego, Seattle and other West Coast points. Mr. Ketchner, who went with them, remained in Seattle where he will be employed for some time.
Brethren Ladies Aid will meet on Friday, Nov. 20, for an all-day meeting at the home of Mrs. Mark Emswiler. The day will be spent in quilting and a pot luck dinner will be served at noon. Anyone who cares to come is welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Bahn and Mrs. Johanna Hagen attended the funeral services for T. B. Tasa at Froid last Friday.
Mrs. Johanna Hagen left Sunday night for Culbertson and Froid where she will visit several days with friends.
Lieutenant Elmo Johnson arrived last Sunday and is enjoying a ten-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Johnson at Brockton. Lieutenant Johnson was inducted into the service last May and recently completed a three-months' course at the officers' training school at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he received his commission. After his furlough he will go to Camp Bowie, Texas, where he will be stationed with the 51st Regiment of Engineers.
Corporal Vernon B. Young writes to have his Standard address changed to 860th Chem. Co. A. O. Camp Merced, Merced, California. Corporal Young writes, "Please send my paper to this new address. I enjoy it very much."
Private Peter Graybear, son of Judge and Mrs. Edward Graybear, has been home on a furlough from Alaska where he has been stationed for some time. He was called home by the serious illness of his mother who is still confined to her home. Private Graybear returned to Alaska Monday morning.
F. E. Sullivan of Circle and brother, C. C. Sullivan of Washington state, were Poplar callers on Friday. They were also transacting business at Brockton, Froid and Culbertson. They are sons of the late J. C. Sullivan, county assessor.
