Two Mississippians Get Expert Infantry's Badge
CAMP LIVINGSTON, La.-Staff Sergeant JOHN A. GARLAN, 28, of Goodman, Mississippi and Sergeant SAUL SMITH, 26, of Hazelhurst, Miss, assigned to the Infantry Replacement Training Center, has received one of the most coveted honors given to members of the Army Ground Forces-the Expert Infantryman's Badge
Staff Sergeant Garlan is the son of Mr and Mrs Chester Garlan of Goodman and Sgt Smith is the son of Mr and Mrs Dave Smith, of Hazelhurst
The badge is probably one of the most difficult for a soldier to earn, and carries additional pay for $5.00 a month It demands that he be a first-class fighting man in top physical condition, and skilled in every phase of ground fighting and close combat
