ITTA BENA - Mississippi Vocational College has announced the completion of its drive to raise $200,000.00 for a Student Religious Social Center according to President J. H. White. The drive was climaxed with an appropriation of $150,000.00 by the State of Mississippi.
In making the announcement, President White said, "the termination of the drive completes our two-year program to raise funds to construct the much needed Religious Social Center for our student body. The Center will touch every segment of our student body, providing rich religious and cultural experiences."
"The success of the drive serves as an index of the faith of many who saw fit to give for the cause of education. To these thousands of friends, the College will forever be grateful," said the President.
The Religious Social Center will house student offices, a Meditation Chapel, recreation room, roof garden and other facilities for cultural and religious development.
A figure of $425,000.00 has been estimated as the cost for the Center, according to President White. The main feature of the Center will be a beautiful Chapel designed and decorated for private meditation. The Center steps up the time table of Mississippi Vocational College as outlined by President White in 1950 - the year of the College founding.
Since the founding, President White has built an institution worth better than 3½ million. The schedule now calls for the immediate construction of an Administration-Auditorium building. Science-Library building and a Religious Social building.
