What is this article about?
The editorial criticizes the local Tribune newspaper for aligning with the Know Nothing faction of the Republican Party and proposing Carl Schurz as Lieutenant Governor rather than Governor, accusing it of a scheme to nominate Alexander Randall for Governor and sideline Schurz, similar to events two years prior. It questions whether Schurz's supporters will accept this.

"The only man mentioned in connection with the Lieutenant Governorship, is that of Carl Schurz. Could any man be better fitted for the position either by nature or scientific attainments.'"
This, we imagine, will be very cold comfort to the German Republicans of Manitowoc, who doubtless think that those very same natural and "scientific attainments." would also be good qualifications for the higher office. But the whole thing is a plan of the Know Nothing Republicans to get Randall nominated for Governor, place Schurz again on the ticket, and scoop him out, as was done two years ago. We will see whether Mr. Schurz or his friends will bite at this new hook of the Tribune, and whether they are willing to be again traded off for the benefit of a few Republican demagogues.
