Extract of a Letter from Haydon-Bridge, near Hexham, Nov. 11.

The Rebels laid Siege to Carlisle last Saturday, and this Morning, and attack'd the City in several Places. At the English Gate they thought to have scal'd the Walls; but met with such a warm Reception from the City, that they were oblig'd to retreat, with the Loss of a great many Men. Butcher Gate was all covered with dead Bodies. The Rebels erected two Batteries, one at Harraby-Hill, and the other at Stanwix.

The Attack this Morning was thought to be the briskest ever known. It is reported, that during the Engagement, there were about 150 Women bore Arms, and behaved in a most surprising Manner.
