Full Text

July 20. Captain Robinson of the ship Isabella, belonging to Dublin, on his passage from Riga to Dublin, on the 3d of July, at twelve o'clock, took up at sea Allen M'Caskell, who was then tied with a rope on the side of a small boat. It appears that the said M'Caskell, with Donald Cheam, John M'Clean, and a young lad, left Loughbrackadill (in the island of Sky) on the 28th of June, in the morning, in order to sail to Glenelg, a small island but a few leagues distance; but in a few hours after, in a gust of wind, the boat overset, and M'Caskell, Cheam, and M'Clean, got on the side of the boat, and lashed themselves thereon. Soon after a heavy sea broke over, and washed off the two latter, who were found dead, tied together, when the said boat was taken up. It further appears that said M'Caskell, who is yet living, and in a fair way of recovery, though in a very weak condition, had been lashed to the boat five days, without any subsistence of any kind whatever, and part of his body in water, being almost famished.
