Full Text
It is gratifying to see the spirit existing throughout the country in favor of agricultural Societies. These associations are highly beneficial in stimulating enterprise, and tend to promote improvements in modes of cultivation and treatment of stock not attainable in any other way. The Salem Gazette, in speaking of the benefits to be derived from the advancement of agriculture, adverts in becoming terms to the example of Great Britain, where the resources of the landed interest have been extended within the half century to a degree almost incredible. It is truly astonishing to look at that snug little Isle of the ocean, and see the millions supported by the improved modes of cultivation which as yet have afforded only slight indications of the extent to which they are capable of being carried.—N.
