A FREEZE IN CALIFORNIA.

The Orange Crop Reported Badly Damaged in Some Sections.

San Francisco, Dec. 30.-Heavy frosts prevailed throughout California last night. The temperature was 18 degrees above zero at Riverside and vicinity, and serious damage to oranges is reported.

Riverside, Cal., Dec. 30.-Last night was the coldest of the season. The mercury suddenly dropped, until in the latter portion of the night, when it remained steadily below the freezing point. The cold, however, was neither severe nor long continued, and the impression is that comparatively small amount of fruit is damaged, the injury amounting to probably less than 10 per cent.
