An Englishman named Brassfield was fined $7 by the Recorder this morning for being drunk and disorderly. He was arrested late last night at the International and Great Northern Railway freight office by Officer McClellan. A man came to McClellan and informed him that a man was in the office drunk and had a pistol and would likely hurt himself or somebody else with it. Just as the officer was starting to interview the gentleman a pistol report was heard in the office, and when he arrived there the office was full of smoke and the pistol was found discharged. Brassfield had thrown the pistol in a drawer of a desk, saying it had been discharged accidentally. He told the man though that he was going to try the pistol, as he had been told it would not shoot and he had been trying it by making a target of a can of water sitting on the hot stove in the office.
