It is Being Enjoyed by the President at Long Branch.
LONG BRANCH, 2:35 P. M.-The President has held his own during the day, and General Swain thinks he is stronger.
He expresses himself as feeling much stronger than in Washington, and enjoys the sea air exceedingly.
Boynton says the pulse at noon, though 114, was good and firm, and the temperature indicated that there was very little fever.
On the whole, he says, the improvement of last night shows that the patient has considerable vitality left.
"I expect to give you better news in the next 36 or 48 hours," said the doctor.
The heat is greater than for years-from 90 to 100 degrees.
The President's quarters, however, are quite comfortable and he gets all the air that is stirring.
New YORK, Sept. 7.-A private dispatch from Long Branch says there is general and hearty satisfaction over the President's condition among all his attendants.
It is rumored that Barnes, Byrnes and Woodward will be dropped from the case soon, as three physicians are enough to handle the case.
New York, Sept. 7.-The Tribune says: The friends of General Arthur say that it is not unlikely that he will go to Washington within a day or two.
The opinion seems to be gaining ground among them that he will be called on very soon to assume the duties of President while Garfield is absent from the seat of government.
