Plot to Wreck Interurban

An unsuccessful attempt was made yesterday morning to wreck an interurban car loaded with passengers on the Alton, Granite and St. Louis line, just south of East Alton, where three ties were laid across the track. Motorman Will Barton could not see the ties until he rounded a sharp curve, and was about 200 feet away. The car struck the ties, knocking two off the track, and hurdled the third but remained on the rails. The passengers were shaken up, but not one was hurt.

Two years ago a similar attempt was made to wreck an interurban car and a reward is still outstanding for information that will lead to the conviction of the perpetrators.
