What is this article about?
Near Cape Finisterre in Galicia, three Catalan barks and three small vessels laden with provisions for Ferrol took refuge from an English 30-gun frigate and privateer on June 18. An English emissary sent to sabotage shore cannons was captured by peasants and taken to Corunna. On June 19, English landed men to nail up the cannons and raised their flag, but peasants removed it. The English fired on the vessels, capturing four while two escaped by running aground. They used a stratagem with false Spanish colors to enter the creek.

On the 19th, the English seeing that he returned not, attempted a descent. Twenty men were landed by them, who, as we had no troops to oppose them, nailed up the four cannon, and planted the British flag on the post. But this a peasant soon after carried away, while the English were amusing themselves by drinking in a village: the enemy's frigate, however, with the privateer that accompanied her, fired upon the barks and the three other vessels, out of which they took four: the remaining two escaped being taken, by running ashore.
To enter the creek the English made use of a stratagem: their frigate hoisted a Spanish flag, and cannonaded the privateer: the latter feigning to strike, the frigate still kept up her false colours, and conducted her pretended prize into the creek.
