Many New Homes in St. Ignatius Show Spirit and Progress of Its People
"Ever so many" new homes have been put up in St. Ignatius in recent years. The pictures below show a few of them. Several others are now in process of construction.
They include the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schoon on First Ave., the Nate Pierce apartment on the same street, and the new Papenfuss residence on the corner of North Main and Flathead.
To mention just a few of the other new homes: Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Siebert's, Walter Frey's, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Freshour's, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Frey's, Mrs. Irene Hamel's, Mr. and Mrs. John Schmauch's, Mr. and Mrs. Mayson Fearon's, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schleip's, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Lewis', Mr. and Mrs. Herb York's, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mayer's and Mrs. Eve Cromwell's --all on the south side, and there are many others.
On the north side there are dozens more--Harry Frey's, Bill Nelson's, Charley Frey's, Percy (Bud) Zumwalt's, Keith Armstrong's, J. J. Chipman's where Mr. and Mrs. Don Hinkley live, Bill Nelson's, John Jacobson's, W. A. Jeffrey's, Robert Cook's, Bertal Pedersen's, Phil Yanzick's, Nate Pierces, Gene Norman's, Lawrence Anderson's (formerly Orval Olsen's), several by Homer Welch and others.
This is the new N. M. Stubblefield home on the corner of Blaine and Second Avenue. The view was taken to include the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tasker and the beautiful catalpa tree now in bloom in their yard. Their home, incidentally, was one of the earliest erected on the north side of Mission creek after the townsite was platted. Mr. Tasker personally planted many of the trees along that street. The lot on which the Stubblefield home stands was formerly his property.
Here are two pretty new homes. On the left is that of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Udall. It was put up originally by Earl Brooks; was transferred by Mr. Brooks to Dillen Cornelison, and from him to the present owners. At the right is the home of Mrs. John E. Lee. Mr. Lee, who passed away recently, moved the first unit of the residence from the housing project at Hungry Horse dam. He added to it and otherwise improved the property. At the extreme right is a corner of the new Pierce Apartment.
This is the pretty new home of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Payne or rather it is a substantial addition to the former Elmer Holmquist residence from whom the Paynes bought the telephone system about 11 years ago. At the left is the new dial telephone building.
Hard workers and home owners in St. Ignatius are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mahe... This is their new 4-room home with half basement. It is just north of their former home... The exterior is of cedar shakes and the roofing is storm proof. Recently two Kool Breeze porches were added and last year a garage was built on the north side of the house.
On the left is one of the several residences erected in St. Ignatius by Homer Welch. It is a neat structure and is now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Herman. To the right is the Keith Clawson residence which Mr. Clawson built while he was superintendent-of Schools here. It is now being offered for sale.
