Full Text
Mayor Tom Estes came over on the East Side yesterday in his rubber tire buggy and inspected the street work going on. The Mayor's mouth watered and he seemed to say: "You gentlemen of the East Side think you are the whole show when it comes to good streets, but you just wait and see if Alcalde Estes don't think up some scheme of paving the West Side streets, for the old saying 'where there is a will there is bound to be a way,' and the will is not only lodged within the breast of the Mayor, but in the entire city council, and if we don't rig up a scheme to rock our streets we would like to know why." Here the Mayor's reverie was cut off by Contractor Ockander approaching and asking him about rocking State Line Avenue. The Mayor said: "If I am not fooled, I think we will give you an order on Monday morning to gravel State Line Avenue, and if we do, it will be only a beginning to a triumphant ending of street improvements." Mayor Estes is going to have something to show the people after his administration is over, or we will get gloriously fooled in him.
