ATLANTIC CITY, N. J.-SNS
Unable to stand the loss of her husband, Mrs. Juanita Hodges, 23, switchboard operator at an apartment house at 15 N. Indiana avenue, attempted suicide by inhaling illuminating gas last Friday night.
After finishing her work Mrs. Hodges entered her apartment and turned on the gas. Neighbors detected the fumes and summoned police. Upon arrival Radio car Officers Miller and Hodges, finding the young wife in a serious condition, rushed her to the hospital where she was revived. Later she told hospital authorities that she intended to end it all because her husband, Leo, had left her since the beginning of the week and failed to return.
Following investigation by Detectives Gaines, Mrs. Hodges was held on an attempted suicide charge. Her husband is said to be an employee of a Boardwalk salt water taffy establishment.
