NEWPORT. January 23.

Wednesday last came into this Port, in Ballast, a Prize Ship, taken by two New York Privateers, on her Passage from Quebec to the Cape, from whence She sail'd the 3d of October. The second French Capt. who came in her, gives us the following Account: That last Summer 42 Sail of Transports arrived at Quebec: all of which, except three departed from thence, before he sail'd: That a French Man of War of 50 Guns, was forced on the Labrador Shore, and entirely lost: That there were 15,000 Soldiers at Quebec: That the Inhabitants were under a great Consternation, as a Visit from the English must oblige them to submit; and that the Destruction made by the English Men of War at Gapee, besides the Loss sustained, was otherwise a Misfortune, as they were not supply'd with Fish at the City, though they had plenty of other Provisions.
