Tear Gas Bulbs Discovered In Thomas' Gun

The use of tear gas, generally conceded to be the law's weapon, by criminals was revealed Wednesday with the arrest of Ed Thomas of 189 Brooks' Alley.

Thomas was arrested by Detectives Cody and Ramsaur in connection with the shooting Christmas Day of Johnnie Mae Lyman, of rear 211 Piedmont avenue, who is in Grady hospital suffering from a bullet wound in the right thigh.

In the weapon which Thomas dropped when surrounded by the officers were three tear gas bulbs. Police believe it the same gun with which he had wounded the woman.

Officer Ramsaur said he was guarding the rear door of the house while his partner entered the front door. Thomas came out the back, his pistol in his hand, but on Ramsaur's command, dropped it.

He was locked up on blanket charges of suspicion.

The gun which the peculiar ammunition was in was turned over to the station lieutenant.
