Full Text

The marking of historic places in this country is receiving increased attention. A historical society in Marietta, Ohio, the first town settled in the state, has begun the work of erecting five memorial stones. They indicate the site of an old stockade of the time of the French and Indian war, the site of Fort Harmar, the spot where Gen. Arthur St. Clair was inaugurated Governor of the Territory, and the places on the river bank where the bands of pioneers landed in 1788. There are few towns in the United States that can not render themselves more interesting by erecting historical stones and tablets.
