The success of Major Lewis against Mr. Andrew Moore, is an extraordinary proof that democracy declines very rapidly. Mr. Moore has been long known to possess great influence in that quarter. Major Lewis had been so long absent, that few knew him; he was also confined by sickness. It was known that he was opposed to the present rulers, and that the president had deprived him of an office without having any other reason. There is another case of that sort, which we believe the president recollects with regret, and if he does not at this time, perhaps he will before the next election.
