Secretary Snyder, General Aiken, Admiral Sitka Among Juneau Visitors
Juneau is serving as a hub city as well as a Capital this week for distinguished visitors to Alaska topped by the number two U. S. Cabinet officer, Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snyder, who was scheduled to arrive here late this afternoon via a U. S. Coast Guard Plane.
Major General Spencer Aiken, Chief Signal Officer of the U. S. Army, arrived here via Ellis Airlines this noon from Ketchikan and is scheduled to leave tonight on board the Alaska for Skagway. He is accompanied by Col. T. J. Tully, Commanding Officer of the Alaska Communications System and Lieutenant Col. M. R. Kunitz, U. S. Army Liaison Officer in Alaska.
Secretary Snyder, accompanied by two civilian friends, will leave here immediately on board the Coast Guard Cutter Wachusett for a visit to Glacier Bay in the company of Gov. Ernest Gruening, Lieutenant Commander Edward P. Chester, Jr., Attorney General Ralph Rivers, Treasurer Oscar Olson, Judge George W. Folta, Buck Harris and Dr. Lewis Michelson.
Gov. Gruening will go to the Westward with Secretary Snyder when they leave the Wachusett at Gustavus.
At Gustavus, tomorrow, the Wachusett will pick up Assistant Secretary of the Army Gordon Gray; General J. Lawton Collins, Army Deputy Chief of Staff; Lieutenant General Robert A. Wheeler, Chief of the Army Corps of Engineers; Major General Thomas Farrell and Brigadier General Thomas S. Timberman.
Gen. Aiken and Col. Tully will also join this group at Gustavus, Col. Kunitz will return here.
Col. Emerson C. Itschner, Lt. Col. Milar Weber, Major Chauncey Schmeltzer, James King and others, traveling in Secretary Gray's group will return to the States via Edmonton from Gustavus without visiting here.
Mrs. Lee Hutton, National President of the American Legion Auxiliary, will arrive tomorrow on the Baranof and will be guest of honor at a banquet in the Salmon Creek Country Club tomorrow evening. She will leave Wednesday for the Westward.
Albert Day, Chief of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington, D. C., is also expected to arrive here tomorrow for a visit with Clarence Rhode, Regional F&WS Director and other officials.
Wednesday, officials of the Civil Air Patrol and the Army and Air Force Reserves, will arrive to confer here on the formation of local units of their organizations.
Members of the Joint Army-Air Force-Navy Board of Education are also expected here to confer with James C. Ryan, Territorial Commissioner of Education, about schooling for dependents of the Armed Forces in Alaska.
Other Army officers are scheduled here at the same time on the National Guard and Selective Service programs.
