INTEMPERANCE.

On Tuesday night last, Joseph Delinger, of Mount Pleasant, between Lancaster and Columbia, cut his throat in a most shocking way with a razor. He had declared his intention of destroying his life several days before, and was watched; and on the night he perpetrated the act had several with him who saw him with the razor, and had no doubt of his intention--but were afraid to go near him as he threatened them. He was so determined to accomplish the object, that after he had made the cut he got his fingers in the windpipe, which was entirely cut off, and enlarged the wound. He had to be tied whilst the wound was dressed. The surgeons left him under some expectations of his recovery, as he was not very weak: and the hemorrhage was stopped: but in about an hour after they departed, he died. Intemperate drinking is the parent of a large portion of the crimes and misery we see around us. He had given himself up to drunkenness, & became embarrassed in his circumstances, which it is supposed led to his committing the awful crime, suicide! Drunkards beware!
