Station Special Projects Officer, Chaplains Teacher to Be Civilians

The Station's special projects officer LCDR Frank S. Corlett, and the Chaplains Indoctrination Unit's only line officer instructor, LT Richard Neuendorffer will be released to inactive duty this month.

Mr. Corlett is a graduate of Dartmouth College. While in Newport he has been prominent in many Players' Guild productions.

Although recently qualified as Organization and Methods Examiner with GS-12 Civil Service rating, he expects to join a firm of management consultants in New York after his release.

Mr. Corlett, from Oak Park, Ill., originally reported to the Central Torpedo Office here in April, 1951, where he served as administration officer.

He authored a pamphlet, "Professional Development at Naval Torpedo Activities Newport, R. I".

Mr. Neuendorffer, from North Tarrytown, N. Y., graduated from Annapolis in 1945. After four and a half years' sea duty and a short inactive duty period, he was recalled to Newport to serve as an instructor on the staff of the old General Line School.

At the Chaplains Unit, he teaches naval subjects, such as seamanship, navigation and engineering.

He has been on the Naval Schools Neuendorffer Command staff since it was established in October, 1952, and has worked with 313 chaplains a third of the present corps-undergoing indoctrination here.

After his release 29 Jan., he will work as a design engineer at the Metric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corp. in Groton, Conn.

Mr. and Mrs. Neuendorffer have three daughters: Carol Lee, 7; Esther, 5; and Jean, 1.

Mr. Neuendorffer will be relieved by LT William W. Therriault, also a line officer.

Mr. Therriault has been in the Navy since 1936, when he enlisted as an apprentice seaman.

He was born in Davenport, Iowa.

Mr. Therriault resides in Newport with his wife and daughter, Carol Yvonne age 7.
