OWNEY GEOGHAN.
He is Somewhat Under a Shadow, Being Arrested Last Evening on a Warrant Sworn Out by Mrs. Carrie Wharton.

Owney Geoghan, the well known Hailey ex-prize-fighter and ex-sport, was arrested last evening by Officer Tom Connolly, on a warrant charging him with felony, the nature of which, more specifically stated, is attempted rape.
The affair happened last Sunday morning about 2 o'clock at the cabin occupied by Mrs. Wharton, on the alley in the rear of Burns' meat market. It appears that she had retired, and her window was raised about a foot. Geoghan thrust his head through the window, when Mrs. Wharton arose and told him to go away. Owney went to the door and attempted to hold the woman, but she escaped and ran to a lodging house on River street. After remaining here a few moments, until the intruder should have departed, she returned and went to bed again. She soon heard a noise, as if it emanated from under the bed, and on looking there discovered a man.
She immediately arose and shouting "fire!" and "murder!" soon brought to her rescue five or six men, who chased Owney down to the lower end of Main street, where they left him.
Mrs. Wharton has been living quietly and to all appearances respectably. She says she never was a sporting woman, and that there are men in town who knew her favorably in Butte, Montana.—News-Miner.
