Yester-day arrived a Schooner, Capt. Francis Browne of this Port, in 22 Days from Martinico, which Place he left the 6th Inst. being obliged to put to Sea by Reason of a violent Gale of Wind or Hurricane, which continued four hours from 10 o'Clock A. M. to such a Degree that he thinks much damage must have arisen to the Vessels that remained in Port. Five or six Vessels put to sea with him, of which one was a Schooner, Capt. Mitchell of South Carolina. And there were remaining in the Harbour of St. Pierre's about twenty Sail, of which there were two Brigantines belonging to the English, viz Capt. Saltontall of New-London, and the other belonging to Rhode Island. In his Passage he touch'd at St. Kitts on the 8th Instant, and found there was at the same Time a violent Gale of Wind at St. Kitts which occasioned the Vessels mostly to put to sea. One Vessel belonging to New England was drove on Shore in the Gale, but 'twas thought might be got off. He also called at St. Eustatia, where there was also a Gale but no Damage done thereby.
