AFFAIRS OF PORT-AU-PRINCE.

NORFOLK, MAY 8.

An attentive friend has put in our hands a letter from his correspondent in Port-au-Prince, dated the 13th of April, and a Gazette of that place, from which we present our readers with the following articles of intelligence:-

It was apprehended that the choice of a new President to succeed Petion would be attended with some difficulty and opposition; but, to the surprize and joy of every one, the election was conducted with the most perfect harmony and good order, and the result generally satisfactory to all parties.

With respect to our commercial relations with Port-au-Prince, we are assured that they are now upon a more favorable footing than at any period of Petion's Presidency. There is nothing to apprehend from the change; on the contrary, commerce will meet with every encouragement and protection under the auspices of President Boyer.
