HARLINGEN, March 11.-(Spl.)
The Kiwanis Club of Harlingen at its ladies night entertainment and banquet to be held tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Madison Hotel will also be host to a Valley-wide get-together meeting of all Valley club members, their wives and sweethearts.
An unusually elaborate and inviting musical program has been arranged by Ned Sondock, monthly meeting chairman and David L. Ormisher the chairman of the Harlingen Inter-club relations committee.
At this entertainment the Valley club will have as special guests Meirton E. Hiesse, international convention manager, Joe Naylor, district governor and Roger Robinson, lieutenant governor.
San Antonio Convention.
At this meeting plans will be arranged for the Valley clubs' participation in the international convention to be held in San Antonio May 19 to 23. From the 1900 Kiwanis clubs it is expected that of the 100,000 members more than 5000 delegates will attend.
Alex Thomas has been chosen general convention chairman with Roy Sivley as chairman and assisting them will be Noe O. Naylor and Frank L. Orr, president of the San Antonio club. The Lanier Hotel has been selected convention headquarters.
Weslaco plans to send the Kiwanis band as one of its attractions while Mercedes will furnish a quartette and other clubs are arranging varied entertainment.
Are Coming to Valley.
One of the outstanding events, from the point of the Rio Grande Valley Kiwanis clubs, and to every resident of the Valley, is the side trip planned from the San Antonio convention through this section into Mexico City. It has not been decided whether the tour of the Valley will be made before or after the delegates have visited Mexico City.
Hon. H. J. Goetzke, has been named the Harlingen convention chairman to affiliate with the other clubs in arranging the Valley's participation in this unusual event and how best to handle the different clubs making this trip.
Valley to be Advertised
In order that the Valley may be well advertised through the columns of the Kiwanis International Magazine, Tom T. Bowman, publicity chairman has been selected to secure and prepare articles concerning the Valley.
David L. Ormisher will handle any subjects pertaining to music; A. L. Brooks will handle publicity on early history and growth of Valley club: Rev. L. A. Boone will consider religion in the Valley Kiwanis activities; Warren Ballard, the junior police functioning in the Harlingen school system; Don Walley. will treat with the Rio Grande Valley clubs' participation in the Texas-Oklahoma district convention at Galveston and B. S. Mothershed with develope the activities of the various clubs of the Valley.
