Organizations to Strive for Concerted Action in Labor Troubles.
Indianapolis, Jan. 26.—The officers of the International Typographical Union, the Photo-Engravers' National Union, the International Printing Pressmen's Union, the International Brotherhood of Book Binders and the International Stereotypers and Electro Engravers' Union, each represented by six persons, will begin a conference in this city today, whose purpose is to settle differences and bring about such a condition that joint action of all the unions will result in cases of strike. It is said trouble has resulted in the allied trades when one of the organizations had a grievance and went on a strike and the others have refused to support it, tho, in many cases, two or more were employed in the same establishment. This has led to estrangements between the several unions, and their interests are so closely linked to each other that an effort will be made to agree upon some rule of action that will prevent such differences in the future. In addition to this certain rules and regulations for joint work are to be discussed and agreed upon, and rules will be established also for the use of the union label. James M. Lynch, president of the International Union, said last night that it will be one of the most important labor conferences held in ten years. The presidents of each of the organizations will be here and participate in the conference.
