In order that the readers of the Herald may know something of Louis K. Pratt of Norton county, the man who will be the next Judge of the 17th Judicial district, we will give a brief sketch of his history. He was born on a farm in Madison county, Ohio, on the 14th day of February, 1852, and is therefore now 33 years old. At the age of 9 years, his parents moved to Springfield, Clark county, Ohio, where they remained about 9 years. Mr. Pratt, like most American boys, attended the common district schools until he was 15 years of age. At that time he was sent to a select school in Springfield, where he remained for one year, at which time he was transferred to Wittenberg College in the same town, where he entered the Freshman class. He left that institution as a Sophomore, in his 18th year; and removed to College Springs, Iowa, where he attended college for two years. At the age of 23 he commenced the study of law at Logansport, Indiana, which course he pursued until 1876, when he commenced the practice of law in Iowa. In 1877 he came to Norton, Kans., where he has continued to reside, devoting his whole time to the practice of his profession. Mr. Pratt has made an enviable reputation as a lawyer. He is a young man of good habits, and possesses keen perception, and a logical mind. With his untiring energy, and earnest desire to faithfully perform the duties of such an important office, we have no doubt that he will make an excellent Judge. We have strong faith in the young men of the country. They must soon assume the responsibility of filling important positions, and we truly believe that Mr. Pratt is a young man in whom the voters of this Judicial district can place implicit confidence.
