Movement of Troops Westward.
The New York Journal of Commerce, of the 6th, says:
The transfer of troops ordered from this station and Newport, for the department of the West, is not intended for special service, but only to fill up deficiencies in the 4th and 9th Infantry, and the 3d Artillery, scattered about Washington Territory, Oregon and California. Two hundred and eighty men, divided into four companies, are called for, of whom about one hundred and fifty will be supplied from Fort Columbus, and the others from New York. They will leave this city on the 20th inst.
