Accident or Murder?

A Young Man Loses His Life in a Tough Quarter of Chicago.

Chicago, Ill., April 23. - What was an accident or murder, and which, in any event, caused the death of a young man, occurred at 12:30 o'clock this morning, at a wharf at the foot of Dock Street, near Rush Street bridge. A splash was heard in the river, and those who heard it were sure someone had fallen in. The watchman on the wharf fished out of the river a black Derby hat and a package done up in paper. In the band of the hat was a business card bearing the inscription: "C. R. Davidson, with J. A. Miller, insurance, 169 and 171 La Salle Street." A well-dressed man with a package under his arm had been in several of the saloons during the evening, in company with two hard-looking strangers, and was spending money freely.
