New-York, June 21.

The president took his departure for New-Haven in the steam-boat Connecticut, capt. Bunker, at 9 this morning. Thus we have got rid of that great "disturber of the peace," as a set of modest managers styled another gentleman before the late election! We need not add, that all parties here vied with each other in paying respectful attention to Mr. Monroe. And, we record it with pride, that the people on all occasions spontaneously maintained their dignity, and observed the respect due to themselves. "No huzzaing ever denoted the presence of a populace." Thus may it ever be! For some of us--printers and others, we cannot say so much. The president could not turn a corner, but it was noted.--Where he was to dine or take tea, was bulletoned--and, a pretty similar style was held towards an agent elected by the people, as is used towards the princes or princesses in England, where, whether they walk or ride around a park, it was always announced in the Gazettes. However we acquit our reputed imitators of ill intention. The president was indeed loaded, with "his excellency," and such contraband articles, in quantity sufficient to break one's back or spoil one's head; but, as usage gave precedents for it, he could not grumble.--Others had been obliged to bear the same unconstitutional, and anti-republican nicknames by virtue of precedent. But, it is now discovered that self-respect is the whole secret of true freedom; and that we cannot, even as honest Christians, give to another what we are unwilling to take for ourselves from others. And so our titles of nobility are in train for being exploded. We are glad of it.--"Man is man, and who is more."

"Disturber of the peace," now signifies some worthy person who, without malice prepense, or mal-intent of any kind, agitates a community, as the tide moves the ocean; one who, whether in quest of health, popularity, or information, alarms none but the dishonest. [N. Y. Col.
