TAMPA (AP) — Competition got keener in the Dixie Tennis Tournament today with seeded players running up against each other in two men's matches.
Second seeded Bernard Bartzen of San Angelo, Tex., takes on Don Platt of Toronto, No. 7; and Mario Llamas, third seeded from Mexico City, plays Henri Rochon of Montreal, No. 6.
Top-seeded Eddie Moylan of Trenton, N.J., took a day off after 6-4, 7-5.
Bartzen beat two Tampa players, Lt. C. W. Ryan 6-0, 6-0 and Capt. Dick Banaszak 6-1, 6-1.
Llamas had a tough time before subduing Jack Staton of St. Petersburg, national veterans champion 6-2, 9-7.
