I have now been four days in this city, and during that period, have devoted my undivided attention to ascertain the prospect of relief to the people of the United States from the pecuniary distress and general derangement of currency, resulting from a high handed and flagrant instance of Executive usurpation. With more than ordinary sources of information open to me and an earnest desire to arrive at the truth stripped of all party-coloring or party prejudice feel warranted in saying that there is not at this period, tho slightest prospect of any arrangement for the benefit of the people for the next sixty or ninety days, and that no such arrangement will be made in time to save the country.
