MUST ANSWER TO CHARGES
Two Local and Three Derby Attorneys Accused,

Today writs were given to a deputy sheriff for service by the grievance committee of the New Haven County Bar association of which Attorney Harry G. Day is chairman, in the cases of the charges brought against Attorneys James F. Torrance and John Bennett, both of Derby, Frank W. Cohen of Ansonia, and two New Haven attorneys, whose identity could not be learned today.

Service of these writs will be made and the matter of these charges will come up for a hearing in the Superior court, Jan. 25.

By a rule of the grievance committee the specific charges are always kept secret until presented by the state attorney, who prosecutes the case in the Superior court. All of the accused attorneys have had hearings before the bar committee.

Attorney Torrance is a very prominent attorney in the Naugatuck valley and is well known. Attorney Cohen was recently fined $375 in the Superior court for illegal voting. Attorney Bennett is said to be implicated professionally with Attorney Torrance. No information could be secured from either the state attorney or the grievance committee today.
