Is to Be Sold
by a Decree
Messrs. Pickens and Davis and Miss Hall Purchase That Popular Hotel.
The Walker house an established hotel with a wide reputation, changed hands at 6 o'clock Thursday evening. James M. Hickman and John A. Parent retiring as proprietors and Carl D. Pickens, Karl G. Davis, of Wallace, and Miss Emma Hall, of Long Beach, Calif., an aunt of Mr. Davis, being the new owners.
Immediate possession was given and the new ownership is running the hotel now.
The hotel is centrally located being near the post-office and it is one that enjoys a wide popularity.
Improvements to the amount of $1,600 are to be made by the owner of the building, it being the intention to newly paper and paint the building throughout and to make other changes that will bring the hotel up to the most modern standard.
Carl D. Pickens is to manage the hotel and Miss Hall is to be the matron.
The former is an enterprising young business man, born and reared at Quiet Dell, and he is known throughout the county as well as in the adjoining counties, from which the Walker house draws a large patronage.
Miss Hall is experienced in the hotel business, having successfully conducted hotels in California.
Mr. Davis is proprietor of the Little Waldo hotel at Wallace and has made a big success there the last two years.
Joseph A. Davis, the big hotel man at New Martinsville, is his brother and Mr. Davis obtained a splendid hotel training under him.
The Davis brothers are natives of Harrison county and related to several of the prominent families of the county among whom are the Langs, the Bassels, the Blakes, the Pickenses and the Devers.
The new owners intend to remodel the equipment and install new furniture and other things to bring the hotel up to the best possible standard and a competent service will be given at all times.
There is every reason to believe that no hotel will be more popular than the Walker house under its new management.
Messrs. Hickman and Parent retired from the business, owing to the former's poor health.
They will go to Buffalo, N. Y., at once and after spending a short time there, they will go to Canada and then to the South.
W. Frank Stout will leave tonight for a week's stay in Philadelphia and Washington on legal business.
