Ed. Democrat—The Congregational Society at Centre Lovell were presented with the handsome sum of $200, on Saturday afternoon, the 23d inst., by Dr. Josiah Heald, of Portland, (formerly of this place,) as a permanent fund for the support of preaching in this place. A large number of guests were invited to meet at brother Abel Heald's to receive the generous donation from the hand of Dr. Heald, who was present with his wife and daughter, and participated in the gift which added much to the interest of the occasion. After the presentation, by the donor in appropriate remarks, it was accepted and responded to by Rev. I. Stearns and others—when we were again surprised by another gift of $100, to constitute a permanent fund for the Sabbath School Library, which was handed over in trust to Mrs. C. E. Barker, who in behalf of the Ladies' Circle in that place accepted and responded to the generous gift of the donor. As the close of the presentation services we were invited by our Host to repair to the supper tables, which were bountifully spread with the rich dainties that well graced the occasion. The remainder of the evening was spent in social chat and listening to beautiful strains of music from the Doctor's daughter, and also from the choir. When the assembly was about to break up their attention was called to the following resolution by E. Barker, which was unanimously adopted:

Resolved, That the Congregational Church and Parish of this place tender to Dr. Josiah Heald their humble and sincere thanks for the permanent and generous donation presented by him to this Society—also the Ladies desire to express their gratitude for the magnanimous gift to the Ladies' Circle at Centre Lovell, for the benefit of the Sabbath School.
